Senate Democrats block vote to defund Planned Parenthood – LifeSite
WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) — Every Senate Democrat, without exception, blocked a vote on a measure that would prohibit federal Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood.
Liberal Republicans Susan Collins (ME) and Lisa Murkowski (AK) joined Democrats in blocking consideration of an amendment to a Senate budget resolution that would extend a one-year ban on Medicaid payments to abortion vendors included in the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” signed by President Donald Trump on July 4, 2025.
Planned Parenthood not only kills preborn children but also supplies transgender drugs to minors. According to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) estimate, Planned Parenthood alone received a whopping more than $1.5 billion in Medicare and Medicaid funds between 2019 and 2021.
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), who proposed the amendment to defund the abortion industry, decried the fact that these funds are being taken from the “the elderly, the poor, and the needy.”
Last night the Senate REJECTED my amendment to ban taxpayer money from funding trans treatments for MINORS. It is indefensible. The House Republicans must act immediately to stop this – or billions of tax $$ will be spent on trans drugs for kids. Get it done. No excuses. https://t.co/6p1asbz03t

On Thursday, he slammed the rejection of his amendment as “indefensible.”
“Last night the Senate REJECTED my amendment to ban taxpayer money from funding trans treatments for MINORS. It is indefensible. The House Republicans must act immediately to stop this – or billions of tax $$ will be spent on trans drugs for kids. Get it done. No excuses,” wrote Hawley on X.
Hawley wrote a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Thursday stressing the urgent importance of the amendment, telling him that “time is of the essence.”
“If the House fails to act immediately as part of reconciliation, billions of Federal dollars will go to Planned Parenthood and other medical ‘providers’ for hormones, puberty blockers, and irreversible treatments for minor children,” Hawley wrote, calling the possibility “unconscionable.”
Hawley pointed to a new study from Concerned Women for America, which found a more than 40 percent increase in “gender transition” activities at Planned Parenthood facilities.
He warned that the organization is “positioned to supercharge its transgender agenda with taxpayer funding taken from the elderly and those in need” and urged Johnson to take action “without delay or hesitation.”
While Hawley in this case emphasized Planned Parenthood facilitating “transgender” interventions for minors, an issue that tends to draw broader support, he is also a staunch advocate of the unborn. He recently pushed for the FDA to withdraw its approval of the abortion pill mifepristone.
