Squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar urged fellow Democrats to “put our arms around” former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and podcaster Candace Owens after they both publicly broke with President Donald Trump.

Speaking this week in an interview with Pod Save America host Tommy Vietor, the Minnesota Democrat argued that recent criticism of Trump from once-loyal MAGA voices presents an opportunity to broaden the left’s political tent. Vietor pointed to a growing number of former “die-hard” Trump supporters who have turned on the president amid controversies surrounding the Epstein files and the war in Iran.

Omar agreed, suggesting that these figures deserve credit for what she characterized as a “wake-up call.”

“I think as Americans, it is really important for us to work together for the preservation of everything that is good in our country,” Omar said. “And I believe the thing that has been very fascinating, especially about Marjorie and Candace, is that they are not just coming out… saying this action is wrong. They’re saying, ‘I am done with you.’”

Omar went on to praise Greene, Owens, and other influencers like Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones for what she described as recognizing Trump as a “con man” and “corrupt, chaotic man,” claiming that his presidency was never about advancing the country but rather about personal grievance and self-enrichment. These are all figures who, like Omar, have been outspoken against Israel and in some cases, perceived so-called Jewish influence.

“The fact that they have gotten off the sycophant train and are saying, ‘We trusted the wrong person,’ I think it’s an important thing for us to put our arms around,” Omar said. “Now let’s figure out how do we save our country from the disaster that this man has created.”

The comments mark a sharp turn from years of public feuding between Omar and Greene. In 2024, Greene pushed to censure Omar, accusing her of potentially acting as a “foreign agent.” Omar, in turn, had previously called for Greene to be stripped of her committee assignments in 2021, citing what she described as threatening rhetoric directed at Democrats.

Despite that history, Omar revealed she had spoken with Greene before the Georgia congresswoman left the congressional chamber for the last time as a member last year, thanking her for her “willingness to speak up” on issues related to Gaza, adding that the people of the United States “have a responsibility” to “end our financial and political support for Israel.”
