“President Stubb and I look forward to strengthening the partnership between the United States and Finland, and that includes the purchase and development of a large number of badly needed Icebreakers for the U.S.”

President Donald Trump met with Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Saturday, where the two leaders discussed strengthening ties between the two countries, including Finland’s potential purchase of icebreakers for the United States.

Trump shared details of the meeting on Truth Social, revealing that they played a round of golf together and that he looks forward to cooperation with Finland. trump was also joined by retired golfer Gary Player as well as senator Lindsey Graham and former representative Trey Gowdy.

“President Stubb and I look forward to strengthening the partnership between the United States and Finland, and that includes the purchase and development of a large number of badly needed Icebreakers for the U.S., delivering Peace and International Security for our Countries, and the World,” Trump wrote.

Icebreakers are ships specialized to navigate through frozen waters and clear paths for other vessels. These ships are particularly important for operations in the Arctic.

Trump added that Stubb expressed strong support for the US, stating, “President Stubb told me, in the most powerful of words, that the United States is STRONG, and BACK, AGAIN. I AGREE!”

Stubb has appeared to be a backer of recent foreign policy moves made by the Trump administration. Stubb recently told CNN he thinks it’s a “good thing” that Trump is making Europe more self-reliant.

“In the first three months of the presidency of Donald Trump, he has done more to push European security and defense than previous 30 years…put together,” Stubb said.
