Bill Maher tears into fellow comedian for supporting child ‘gender transitions’ – LifeSite
(LifeSiteNews) — Comedian Bill Maher was once cutting-edge – a Hollywood hedonist who palled around with Hugh Hefner and embraced the sexual revolution with every fiber of his being. These days, however, he is like a man from another age, a 1990s liberal fossilized in amber. When it comes to the sexual revolution, it turns out he was a Menshevik, not a Bolshevik – the radicals at the top have gone too far even for him.
“Too far” for Maher is sex changes for children.
In a conversation published on April 27 with actor and fellow comedian David Cross on Maher’s podcast Club Random, Cross mentioned that his 9-year-old daughter has “trans friends.” Maher did a double take. “Wait, she has trans friends in third grade?” he asked. “Yep,” Cross replied nonchalantly. “They know they’re trans in third grade?” Maher asked.

At this point, Cross felt it necessary to explain further. “One of her friends I knew when he was a girl,” Cross said carefully. “Just turned nine and is the coolest kid. Girl to boy. And she has another very close friend whose not in the school who’s boy to girl. At three years old.” Yeah, you read that right: Three years old. “Boy to girl.”
What ensued was a fascinating exchange.
“I knew a woman who said to me – actually, more than one person – ‘I was what they called a tomboy,’” Maher replied. “If I was alive now, and acted the way I did then, that’s what they would have done to me.”
“Well, nobody’s doing this to her,” said Cross uncomfortably.
“Well, I don’t know,” Maher told him.
“Literally nobody is doing this to her,” Cross emphasized edgily.
“How old?” Maher asked.
“She is – or he is – either eight or I think nine,” Cross said.
“Okay, then somebody is doing something because eight or nine-year-olds can’t do anything on their own,” Maher pointed out.
“You know what they’re doing? They’re buying them boys’ clothes,” Cross shot back.
Maher: “Well then, they’re doing something.”
Cross: “Sure. Yes, you’re right. They’re buying them boys’ clothes.”
Maher: “And telling them ‘You’re a boy now.’”
Cross: “No, no, they’re not telling them. They’re just agreeing with them.”
Maher: “They’re agreeing with an 8-year-old! Because when has their judgment ever been off at 8?”
At this point, Maher got fed up. “Good luck with President Vance. Because, as I always say to my woke friends, we voted for the same person,” he said. “You’re just why she lost – and this is a case of that.” Cross was genuinely confused. “Wait, what?”
“You’re just why she lost,” Maher said. “Because America hears this, and they’re going to go, ‘Bill’s right. Eight-year-olds can’t really make decisions on their own like this.’ That’s what most people are going to say. And this is where the Democrats are – with David Cross, living in Brooklyn, with Mandami loving, and this is why we’re going to vote for JD Vance. And that’s America in a nutshell.”

Cross went on to defend trans-identifying males in sports; Maher mocked him once again, pointing out that Cross was a member of the “loony left” willing to “die on hills that are unnecessary to die on.” Cross stuck to his guns (metaphorically, of course) and continued to die on the hill. Maher pointed out that most countries have abandoned transition for minors, and that the idea that puberty blockers are “reversible” is something that “only the Democratic Party believes.”
Maher is right—the transgender issue, and the “trans kids” issue in particular, has been the off-ramp for many ordinary Americans who were fine with much of the sexual revolution and shrugged at same-sex “marriage.” These were massive wedge issues in the 2024 election, and trans activists arguably helped win the election for Trump. But the last people on the barricades, when the revolution is lost, are going to be parents like those of that three-year-old David Cross mentioned – because they will never be able to admit that what they did to their children is a horror.
