Biden FBI monitored traditional Catholic priest and his uncle: Trump DOJ – LifeSite
(LifeSiteNews) — The Biden administration “zealously” discriminated against public actions that supported “traditional Biblical views,” according to a new report by the Trump Justice Department’s Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias.
The 200-page report concluded the previous administration “generally tolerated religious beliefs that were privately held but zealously pursued actions to limit Christians’ ability to act in accordance with their faith” and “forc[ed] Christians with traditional biblical views to choose whether to live in accordance with their faith or risk violating federal law.”
The report highlights the case of Xavier Louis Lopez, who was sentenced last year to eight years in prison for illegal possession of Molotov cocktails. While the report acknowledged the investigation of Lopez himself as legitimate, it faults Biden officials for using his self-identification as a “radical traditional Catholic Clerical Fascist” as a pretext for a broader probe of an “entire Catholic sect” with whom he had been affiliated.
“Lopez had attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) Chapel for approximately seven months and participated in three or four catechism classes as part of the process to become baptized,” reads a January 2023 FBI email. “FBI Richmond attempted to interview the priest … who was not cooperative. Additionally, he has been to see Lopez six times in jail. According to [redacted] he frequently flies back to Kentucky. It appears that his uncle is [redacted], one of the key people in the SSPX-MC organization […] We would be very interested in any information that you have on the organization.”
According to the report, the “Richmond Field Office opened a law enforcement profile, known as a Guardian profile, on Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Society SSPX Chapel, a church that played no role whatsoever in Lopez’s acquisition or possession of the destructive devices.”
Former FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland eventually apologized for the now-infamous memo targeting traditional Catholics as potential extremists, but Richmond field office special agent in charge Stanley Meador privately told the memo’s author, “No apology needed,” and that the incident would “make for a great chapter in your memoirs some day!”
The report also highlights the Biden administration’s general hostility to conscience rights in the areas of abortion, vaccines, and girls’ sports.
“The Biden Administration’s policies regularly clashed with a Christian worldview and burdened traditional religious practices,” it summarized. “These conflicts frequently arose over abortion, gender ideology, and sexual orientation. Ultimately, the Biden Administration penalized Christians who lived in accordance with their beliefs.”
The politicization of justice was one of the defining controversies of the Biden years, from the failed attempt to imprison pro-life activist Mark Houck for a minor altercation with a violent pro-abortion activist that had already been dispatched by local authorities, to the “sham prosecution” of Dr. Eithan Haim for exposing the underage “gender transition” practices at Texas Children’s Hospital.
