White House replaces Covid.gov with info on lab leak, ‘true origins’ of virus
“A lab-related incident involving gain-of-function research is the most likely the origin of COVID-19.”
The Biden administration’s website, which previously focused on promoting the coronavirus vaccine, COVID.gov, has been revamped by the Trump administration to discuss the “true origins of Covid-19,” going over the failures of local, federal, and international governments during the pandemic.
A senior administration official told Fox News on Friday, when the revamped webpage went live, “This administration prioritizes transparency over all else. The American people deserve to know the truth about the Covid pandemic and we will always find ways to reach communities with that message.”
Discussing the origin of the pandemic-causing virus, the website says across five points, “The virus possesses a biological characteristic that is not found in nature”; “Data shows that all COVID-19 cases stem from a single introduction into humans. This runs contrary to previous pandemics where there were multiple spillover events”; “Wuhan is home to China’s foremost SARS research lab, which has a history of conducting gain-of-function research (gene altering and organism supercharging) at inadequate biosafety levels”; “Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) researchers were sick with COVID-like symptoms in the fall of 2019, months before COVID-19 was discovered at the wet market”; “By nearly all measures of science, if there was evidence of a natural origin it would have already surfaced. But it hasn’t.”
The webpage states that the information included comes from the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability.
“A lab-related incident involving gain-of-function research is the most likely the origin of COVID-19. Current government mechanisms for overseeing this dangerous gain-of-function research are incomplete, severely convoluted, and lack global applicability,” the webpage states, noting that public health officials like Dr. Anthony Fauci promoted the “Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2” publication to “push the preferred narrative that COVID-19 originated in nature.”
Highlighted by the webpage is Ecohealth Alliance’s use of US taxpayer funds to conduct gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China, the National Institutes of Health’s “deficient” procedures for funding and overseeing potentially dangerous research, and obstruction efforts of Biden administration officials and others.
The administration called the World Health Organization’s response to the pandemic an “abject failure because it caved to pressure from the Chinese Communist Party and placed China’s political interests ahead of its international duties” and criticized social distancing, lockdown, and mask mandate measures.
It noted that the “six feet apart” measure adopted by officials worldwide “was arbitrary and not based on science,” said that there was “no conclusive evidence that masks effectively protected Americans” and “Public health officials flipped-flopped on the efficacy of masks without providing Americans scientific data,” and said that “Prolonged lockdowns caused immeasurable harm to not only the American economy, but also to the mental and physical health of Americans, with a particularly negative effect on younger citizens.”
