The US and Israel’s war with Iran has entered a third week with sustained attacks focused on Tehran, as retaliatory strikes continue to be felt by neighbouring Gulf states.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it is carrying out a wave of strikes in parts of Iran on Monday, and “limited and targeted” ground operations in Lebanon to target Iran-backed Hezbollah sites. Meanwhile, the US said it struck 90 military targets on Iran’s strategic Kharg Island last week.

The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) said 1,330 civilians have been killed, including at least 206 children, since 28 February. Thirteen US service personnel have been killed since the start of the conflict, according to the Department of Defense.

US and Israeli strikes across Iran

The first US-Israeli strikes on Iran began on 28 February with Israel’s military saying it targeted Iran’s leadership and its military infrastructure. The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in Tehran during the initial strikes.

BBC Verify has so far confirmed visual evidence of at least 166 attacks across Iran, including at least 69 strikes in Tehran. The US said last week it has attacked approximately 6,000 targets across Iran.

Farther south, a cluster of markers indicates multiple strikes near the Presidential Office. To the east, there is another individual strike marker. An inset map in the upper left indicates that Tehran sits in the north of Iran.

On Friday, US Central Command (Centcom) said 90 military targets had been hit on Kharg Island, which is vital for Iran’s oil exports and handles about 90% of shipments. BBC Verify has identified at least 12 locations that appear in Centcom’s footage.

Satellite imagery reviewed by BBC Verify since the conflict began on 28 February has shown damage to a nuclear facility at Natanz and and three Iranian missile sites. BBC Verify has also seen damaged aircraft at Mehrabad airport in Tehran.

In Minab, in the south of Iran, at least 168 people including children were killed at a primary school when it was hit on 28 February, Iranian authorities said. Experts who analysed a video showing a missile moments before it struck the IRGC base next to the school told BBC Verify the munition was a US Tomahawk. Neither Israel nor Iran are known to possess Tomahawks, experts said.

Qatar’s Ministry of Defence on Monday said it intercepted two waves of strikes from Iran.

The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) ministry of defence said seven people have been killed since the start of the war and 145 injured. Last week it said at least 268 missiles and 1,514 drones had been launched at the country since the start of the war.

Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry said on Friday it destroyed a number of drones over its territory.

Two people were killed after a drone came down in Oman, according to state media, which is being investigated by authorities.

Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Iraq have also come under attack since 28 February.

Hezbollah began firing missiles and rockets into Israel following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader at the start of the war.

On Monday the IDF said it had begun targeted ground operations in south Lebanon against “key Hezbollah strongholds”.

Last week it said it had carried out around 70 strikes in Beirut against what it called “terrorist infrastructure” in the city, and accused Iran of launching cluster bomb missile strikes on Israel, which killed two people.

The Lebanese health ministry said on Sunday that 850 people had been killed since Israel began its offensive.
