President Donald Trump delivered remarks at Saturday’s military parade that commemorated the US Army’s 250th anniversary, declaring that “it’s about time” America celebrates its victories the way other nations do.

“As we celebrate tonight, we also think of the hundreds of thousands of Army soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice for our nation and selflessly laid down their lives in every war, from the revolution to the war on terror, to the Gold Star families with us today,” Trump said during the event.

The president praised General George Washington as an “indomitable commander” and highlighted the US Army’s long record of battlefield success. Trump said that through generations of service, the Army “has forged a legacy of unmatched courage, untold sacrifice, and unequaled and undying glory.”

“Time and again, America’s enemies have learned that if you threaten the American people, our soldiers are coming for you,” Trump said. “Your defeat will be certain, your demise will be final, and your downfall will be total and complete.”

“The Army keeps us free, you make us strong, and tonight, you have made all Americans very proud,” he added.

Standing alongside First Lady Melania Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the president saluted as nearly 7,000 soldiers participated in the march. The parade featured dozens of M1-A1 Abrams tanks, Bradley and Stryker fighting vehicles, and service members wore uniforms representing major periods of Army history.

During the event, Trump also led a group of new and reenlisting soldiers in taking the oath to serve.

“Congratulations!” Trump told soldiers after they completed the oath. “Congratulations. And welcome to the United States Army and have a great life! Thank you very much, have a great life. Thank you.”

The celebration coincided with the president’s 79th birthday and came on the same day that protesters across the country held “No Kings” demonstrations opposing what they describe as authoritarian policies of the Trump administration.
