(LifeSiteNews) — A British surgeon from Oxford University Hospital provided a harrowing firsthand account of his repeated medical missions to Gaza in a Wednesday interview with Tucker Carlson.

Dr. Nick Maynard witnessed Israel’s “deliberate” destruction of the “infrastructure of living in Gaza,” including targeted shootings of children, serial rape tortures, direct attacks on hospital facilities, and the engineered starvation against the entire population.

Maynard, a gastrointestinal surgeon and associate professor of surgery who has visited Gaza since 2010 and was awarded the UK Humanitarian Medal from King Charles III in 2025, described Israel’s ongoing systematic assault on civilians and healthcare infrastructure during its genocidal war against the Palestinians in the region.

Maynard emphasized what, by all appearances, was Israel’s deliberate efforts to destroy Gaza’s medical system despite it being a war crime. “There’s been a grossly disproportionate killing of healthcare workers,” he observed, emphasizing nearly 2,000 have been killed. And adding that “all the hospitals have been attacked,” he concluded the tactics are “a deliberate part of the Israeli policy to dismantle the whole infrastructure of living in Gaza.”

Explaining that he had personally lost around a dozen close friends who were murdered by the Israeli army, he recalled one young plastic surgeon he worked with three years ago whom he described as having been executed. His body and that of his mother were found around one mile from Al-Shifa hospital with “their hands handcuffed behind their backs and they both had bullet wounds in the brains,” he said.

After the first destruction of Al-Shifa two years ago, all the staff members were displaced, and when they returned a few weeks later after the Israeli army’s departure, they found “the dead bodies of 300 civilians in the hospital. Some patients, some staff, many of them handcuffed with their hands behind their back, many of them with bullet wounds on the head, including this friend of mine.”

Maynard cited figures of nearly 500 healthcare workers being abducted and illegally detained in the Israeli prison system that has been reported by credible human rights organizations as a notorious network of torture camps.

“There are multiple examples of people being tortured to death,” he confirmed. Highlighting one case, he referenced Palestinian orthopedic surgeon Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh: “An iconic orthopedic surgeon who I …  had coffee with him in May 2023, he was tortured to death.”

A Sky News investigation, based on detainee testimonies, revealed the horrific details. “This surgeon’s mode of torture was being raped to death,” Maynard said. “He’d been serially raped on a daily basis for two weeks prior to his dying. His body has never been returned.”

Sadistic torture, blockade against anesthetics, surgeries without pain relief

Having taken video and audio testimonies from healthcare workers who had survived Israeli torture facilities, the surgeon said they had their genitals “repeatedly attacked, specifically,” being “electrocuted through their genitals,” being subjected to “severe psychological torture,” including being “blindfolded for 60 days in a row,” handcuffed, “not allowed to lie down,” being forced to be on their knees or sit “for 60 days nonstop, beaten regularly, electrocuted,” etc.

Maynard also affirmed that despite Israel’s repeated pretense for attacking the hospitals there was absolutely no evidence Hamas used hospitals as “command centers.”

He also recalled how Israel’s blockade of the strip caused many deaths due to malnutrition, including children he had operated on, whose names he recalled having clearly shared a humanitarian affection for each. But the blockade kept out not only food but proper medical necessities such as anesthetics that required surgical medical procedures without pain relief.

The British doctor remembered one story of an eight-year-old girl whose leg was so badly broken it cut off the blood supply to her foot, and thus it was necessary to straighten it immediately in order to keep the foot from dying. “And that had to be done without any pain relief. And I’m telling you this: I can hear her screams as that was done.”

Israeli snipers target different body parts of children on different days

Maynard additionally confirmed the already well-established reports of the Orwellian-named “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” that set up just four food distribution sites designed to be “death traps.” In addition to the U.S. and Israeli-backed GHF intentionally causing great scarcity of food, with a process of distribution logically producing stampedes killing many, they also routinely fired on the desperate crowds killing and maiming many more as a type of target practice.

Driven by the hunger of their families, young teenage boys would come in seeking aid distributions despite their understanding the dangers when reports emerged of their being shot by Israeli snipers.

Furthermore, emergency room doctors had noticed how “there were different body parts being targeted on different days at the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation food distribution” centers.

As was corroborated by many medical personnel, on one day, 19 teenage boys came in with gunshot wounds to the head and neck. “Another day they came in predominantly with chest injuries. Another day they came in predominantly with abdominal gunshot wounds,” the doctor explained.

On another day, “four young teenage boys were brought in, all of whom had been shot in the testicles. Just the testicles. Nowhere else,” Maynard testified. “And the pattern of injuries that we all witnessed was so striking that it was clearly beyond coincidental. And it seemed to us that there was a game of target practice” happening among the Israeli soldiers.

Genocide continues: Since October, ‘ceasefire’ Israel kills 906, takes more territory

On casualties and humanitarian conditions, Maynard cited figures reporting around 76,000 confirmed trauma killings by the Israelis in Gaza. With many thousands of bodies still buried under the rubble, the surgeon cited a Lancet study that estimates a total of “probably 100,000 killed directly by trauma” and an additional 186,000 dead due to indirect causes such as starvation and lack of medical care.

Notwithstanding the so-called “ceasefire” deal that was signed last October, Israel continues to attack Gaza on a near daily basis. Reliable reports indicate that since this time they have killed at least 906 Palestinians in the strip, injuring 2,747.

Israel has also breached the ceasefire agreement by expanding its territorial control in Gaza, with the IDF now occupying 60% of the Strip — up from 53% at the beginning of the so-called truce — while continuing to impose aid restrictions.

Additionally, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Wednesday that Israel’s plan to completely ethnically cleanse the Palestinians in Gaza from their ancestorial homeland will eventually be implemented at the “right time.”

Maynard: Palestinians ‘most beautiful people I’ve ever met in the world’

Despite all of this, Maynard explained that while they have focused on “all the horrors, the atrocities, the sheer evil” he had witnessed, he has also seen “the very, very best of humanity, some of the most inspirational heroes, wonderful people” during his time in Gaza.

With regard to the Palestinians in general, he said, “they are incredibly resilient, incredibly resourceful, but they are the kindest, most generous-hearted, most beautiful people I’ve ever met in the world.”
