After a lackluster opening weekend at the box office and an even worse second weekend, Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White is reportedly expected to lose approximately $115 million. The film, which premiered on March 21, cost $410 million in feature expenses and will likely be eating much of the cost as forecasts suggest the film will earn just $295 million in total revenues.

The movie has grossed $143.1 million worldwide since its debut earlier in March through Sunday. Its second weekend in theaters earned only $14.2 million domestically, a 66 percent drop from its first weekend, Deadline reported. The expected $295 million in total revenue includes $101 million from global theatrical rentals, $130 million from streaming and television rights, $62 million from home entertainment sales, and $2 million from merchandise.

The flop came after the film was embroiled in controversy well before it hit theaters, including lead actress Rachel Zegler, who was cast to play Snow White, sharing her strong hatred of Trump supporters on social media. She wrote: “May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.”

Zegler also criticized Disney in a promotional interview for the film, referring to the 1930s classic as “weird” and outdated. “The original cartoon came out in 1937 and very evidently so,” she told Extra in 2022. “There’s a big focus on her love story with the guy who literally stalks her. Weird, weird.”

After facing backlash, she attempted to walk back her comments, saying that playing the part of Snow White was “the honor of a lifetime.”

Furthermore, Zegler made provocative remarks about Israel’s fight against Hamas, signing off on an Instagram post that said, “Free Palestine.” This did not sit well with her co-star, Gal Gadot, who played the evil queen, per the New York Post. Gadot is an Israeli citizen who served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
