WASHINGTON, D.C. (Christian Newswire) — The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division has been charged with investigating weaponization of the DOJ during the Biden administration. A draft report of their findings was leaked to reporters at MS Now. Their article, published yesterday, states the Justice Department is likely to publicly release the report as early as next week.

On March 4, Terrisa Bukovinac, founder of Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), and Randall Terry, founder of Operation Rescue, met with the DOJ in Washington DC and were provided access to unredacted DOJ materials, because, the DOJ said the information references Terry by name and Bukovinac’s organization.

Bukovinac and Terry claim that the report contains damning evidence of collusion and unethical behavior between the DOJ and pro-abortion entities, including the National Abortion Federation (NAF). This includes evidence that Sanjay Patel, lead prosecutor, was in disproportionate and unethical contact with pro-abortion groups in order to prosecute pro-life activists. Meanwhile the more than 70 attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers in the months following the overturn of Roe v. Wade went almost entirely uninvestigated and unprosecuted.

The DOJ documents include an email from NAF inviting Patel to speak at their fundraiser, and another email in which Patel was helping NAF obtain a significant financial grant. Bukovinac and Terry also say that while Patel was providing detailed information to NAF upon request leading up to trial, when defendant Joan Andrews Bell asked for similar information she was told it wasn’t available.

In his communication with NAF, Patel was also allegedly suggesting ways to increase carceral punishment for pro-lifers engaged in peaceful activities, to create fear among pro-life activists.

The emails in the report also revealed that NAF sent an undercover informant to infiltrate a PAAU meeting in 2023. During that meeting the informant made a recording of defendant Lauren Handy and gave the recording directly to the DOJ.

Lauren Handy was then director of activism for PAAU, and at the time she was being charged by Biden’s Justice Department under the Freedom to Access Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. The DOJ later used this recording against Handy in court, claiming she was in violation of the terms of her release.

The report also reportedly shows emails from Patel in which he discussed prosecuting two pro-abortion activists because he was concerned that his bias against pro-lifers was becoming too visible.

Bukovinac says the DOJ clarified to her that while the investigation began as an attempt to find what they perceive as anti-Christian bias, the report acknowledges that not all defendants are Christian, particularly PAAU’s founding board member Herb Geraghty, who is an atheist.

During the trial, Patel urged the judge to prevent Geraghty from sharing his atheism with the jury, claiming it would bias the jury in his favor.

Bukovinac, also an atheist, says: “Sanjay Patel has abused his power to viciously separate families and cover-up the real crimes happening at abortion centers across the country. He is a tool of Biden’s carceral oppression of nonviolent pro-life people, and failed to get even an iota of justice for the five victims of infanticide these activists sought to protect. Patel should be fired, prosecuted, and publicly shamed for his crimes.”
