Addressing the nation, King Charles said: “On Maundy Thursday, Jesus knelt and washed the feet of many of those who would abandon Him. His humble action was a token of His love that knew no bounds or boundaries and is central to Christian belief.

“The love He showed when He walked the Earth reflected the Jewish ethic of caring for the stranger and those in need, a deep human instinct echoed in Islam and other religious traditions, and in the hearts of all who seek the good of others.”

Laura fumed: “We have to apologise for Christianity. It’s not our faith that’s weak, it’s our leadership that’s weak in this country.

“We have no proper leadership for Christianity in this country. When is someone going to stand up and do something about the Church of England in this country?”

In agreement with Laura, broadcaster Cristo Foufas claimed the King’s decision to include other faiths in his Easter message is out of “fear”.

Foufas told the GB News audience: “In context of the King, it’s fear. I think that there is such a fear now – I’m not particularly religious, but I have a lot more sympathy now for Christianity than I used to.

“Because I think that Christianity is the only religion that there is a fear of saying this moment, this time, is just ours. We’re just going to praise Easter, praise something that is a Christian holiday. But there is such a fear in this country to do that, that you can’t just be Christian.”

Weighing in on the King’s Easter message, commentator Adam Brooks claimed that both the Prime Minister and monarch are “watering down” Christianity.

He concluded: “Of course he should promote Christianity, but we’ve got a Prime Minister that would rather tweet about other religious days than our own, and now we’ve got a King that wants to water down the Easter message.

“It looks very sinister from the outside. I’m an atheist, but I think churches are beautiful, they are part of our heritage. I think they should be celebrated and protected, and yet we have got churches that are being damaged.”
