(LifeSiteNews) – Former Vice President Kamala Harris lost the 2024 presidential election in part because of her uncompromising support for transitioning gender-confused minors and her fixation on identity politics, according to a newly released autopsy report commissioned by the Democrat National Committee (DNC).

According to a May 21 announcement by DNC Chair Ken Martin, he commissioned the “comprehensive review” to get to the bottom of the “most painful and consequential election losses for Democrats in modern history,” but when he received the final product “late last year, it wasn’t ready for primetime. Not even close. And because no source material was provided, fixing it would have meant starting over, from the beginning – every conversation, every interview, every data set.”

Martin announced in December the report would not be released — and he now admits that created an “even bigger distraction.”

“I am not proud of this product; it does not meet my standards, and it won’t meet your standards,” he wrote. “I don’t endorse what’s in this report, or what’s left out of it. I could not in good faith put the DNC’s stamp of approval on it. But transparency is paramount. So, today, I am releasing the report as I received it – in its entirety, unedited and unabridged – with annotations for claims that couldn’t be verified.”

Each of the report’s 192 pages bears a disclaimer at the top that it “reflects the views of the author, not the DNC. The DNC was not provided with the underlying sourcing, interviews, or supporting data for many of the assertions contained herein and therefore cannot independently verify the claims presented.” Throughout, it is annotated to note the DNC’s issue with various claims, particularly lack of source data.

Still, it contains numerous noteworthy observations consistent with outside analysis of Harris’ loss to President Donald Trump.

In a passage not annotated by the DNC, the report observes that “pollsters were involved in discussions around the Trump attack ads – in particular the attack ad focused on the Vice President’s prior statements on transgendered Americans. They all recognized the attack as very effective, and felt the campaign was boxed – the ad was a video of her saying what she said, and it was framed as an attack on her economic priorities.”

“If the Vice President would not change her position – and she did not – then there was nothing which would have worked as a response,” the report said. “The pollsters generally concurred with the opinions shared by campaign leadership — given the stakes and timing, the focus needed to be on attacking Trump.”

The report also highlights a “messaging misalignment” in the party’s national messaging, acknowledging that “focus on social issues over economic issues alienated socially conservative voters who prioritized kitchen-table concerns. The ‘Bidenomics’ framing emphasized macro statistics rather than the micro realities voters experienced daily and specifically tied President Biden — by name — to actual economic anxiety.” However, perhaps out of aversion to critique the Biden administration too deeply on policy, it attributes this anxiety to “messaging” on climate change and green energy rather than inflation or federal spending on former President Joe Biden’s watch.

Also of note, the report warns Democrat candidates to “address economic concerns, and don’t assume identity politics will hold male voters of color.” It notes that “Successful (U.S. Senate) candidates like (Ruben) Gallego (in Arizona) and (Jacky) Rosen (in Nevada) showed how year-round presence, economic messaging, and addressing cost-of-living concerns resonate more than identity politics.”

Notably, the sections in which these latter points appeared received DNC annotations of “No evidence or sourcing provided for many claims in this section,” but they did not specify the claims to which they referred.

The report’s findings are consistent with post-election polling by the pro-Democrat firm Blueprint, which found that the statement “Kamala Harris is focused more on cultural issues like transgender issues rather than helping the middle class” was the third-biggest reason for why overall voters chose not to vote for her, and the number one reason why swing voters rejected her and voted instead for Trump.

While the majority still supports government recognition of same-sex “marriages,” a wealth of polling has consistently shown that the national Democrat Party’s aggressive embrace of transgender dogma is a bridge too far.

Sixty-six percent of Americans oppose taxpayer funding for gender transitions, according to an April 2025 Cygnal poll, and Pew Research finds that 66% support limiting athletic participation to actual members of a team’s designated sex, 56% support prohibiting transition procedures on minors, and 53% oppose forcing insurance companies to cover transition services. A June 2025 Gallup poll found that not even half of Democrats support letting males compete in female sports.
