Dem Rep Jasmine Crockett claims Republicans ‘like her,’ believe she is fighting for them
“I’ve had a number of Republicans that approach me as they see me out and they say ‘hey, I just wanted to let you know that I really like you.'”
Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) claimed this week that several Republicans have approached her to express admiration, claiming they view her as someone who is genuinely fighting for the American people despite party differences.
During an appearance on The Jim Acosta Show, Crockett said she has been approached by Republican voters while out in public who express support for her work.
“I’ve had a number of Republicans that approach me as they see me out and they say ‘hey, I just wanted to let you know that I really like you,’” Crockett claimed while sitting in front of a framed photograph of herself. “‘Like, we come from completely different parties, but I believe that you are fighting for the people, I believe that you are trying to do what’s best for us. I may disagree with, like, how you feel like we get there, but I agree with your fight.’”
She went on to suggest that such bipartisan appeal is “scary” to the GOP because “it’s not just, say, black folk, that are listening to me.”
Acosta later turned the conversation to immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, commenting on the number of instances where Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have apprehended individuals for deportation. Acosta claimed that the Trump administration would want to arrest Crockett herself.
“I’m worried about folks like yourself, congresswoman, because I have to assume that, you know, of course they would like to arrest you and some of the others who are more outspoken in the house,” the former CNN anchor claimed.
Crockett has been a polarizing figure within the Democratic Party since taking office in January 2023. She has previously made headlines for controversial remarks, including a comparison of Donald Trump MS-13 gang member. She criticized Trump’s immigration policies and has spoken in support of illegal immigrants, telling a Baptist church congregation that we need illegal immigrants to work the farms because no one else will, adding that black Americans are “done picking cotton.”
She also faced backlash after appearing to mock Texas Governor Greg Abbott for being in a wheelchair, publicly referring to him as “Governor Hot Wheels.” She later denied that the remark was aimed at Abbott’s disability.
