100 up for Surreypublished at 17:47 BST
Warwickshire 544 v Surrey 328 & 103-1
Surrey have had a few alarms during this long final session of the day but they’re making steady progress in eating into Warwickshire’s first innings lead.
The hundred came via a false shot as Jamie Smith got an inside edge away to the boundary off Barnard.
Smith is on 20 with Burns on 44.

Leics 68-4 – target 481
A couple of boundaries through the covers for Stevie Eskinazi spoil Henry Crocombe’s figures somewhat, but with 19 overs left, there is plenty of time for Sussex to add another wicket or three before the close.
-
Hammond dropped on 11published at 17:45 BST
Glos 101-3 f/o – need 229 to make Middlesex bat again
Josh de Caires is the lone slip but he gets a good look at this one as Miles Hammond flashes an edge off Ryan Higgins across his chest but he can’t hold on with two hands and Hammond escapes to scamper a single.
Hammond is on to 12 and Ollie Price has two, with the Gloucestershire deficit now 128.

for Tom Kohler-Cadmorepublished at 17:43 BST
Somerset 347 & 128-1 v Notts 338
Tom Kohler-Cadmore brings up his own half-century with a lovely clip off his hips to long leg from Dillon Pennington for his eighth four from 79 deliveries.
It’s the second of three straight boundaries for TKC as Somerset set to build a lead big enough to set up an aggressive declaration on the final day.

Dickson c Revis b Bess 2 (Glamorgan 302 & 43-2 v Yorkshire 226)
Sean Dickson is a batsman who likes to get on with it but perhaps that shot was a little too much at this stage of proceedings.
He goes for a big hit over the leg-side off Dom Bess but doesn’t make perfect contact and Matthew Revis has a safe pair of hands in the deep.
Glamorgan are 119 ahead as skipper Kiran Carlson comes out to bat.

Leics 58-4 – target 481
Crocuses can be early bloomers – and so are Crocombes, judging by the Sussex paceman’s performance at Grace Road.
‘Quicker than he looks’ is the consensus view in the BBC commentary box and he has 2-12 from three overs so far, to go with his 5-33 in the first innings.
-
for James Rewpublished at 17:38 BST
Somerset 347 & 120-1 v Notts 338
The scoring rate has ticked up with Liam Patterson-White’s introduction, and James Rew gets down on one knee to launch his second six off the spinner over the deep square leg boundary.
The Somerset advantage is up to 129 with nine wickets in hand.
Rew is into the 60s for the second time in the match.
Somerset showing signs of intent to put the pedal down against the spinner, who has not bowled at all badly, though has gone for 38 from his seven overs due to some aggressive shots.

Latest from Derbypublished at 17:34 BST

Happily for Worcestershire followers, their team have avoided early damage after having to follow-on at the Co-Op County Ground.
Jake Libby is 11 not out and Dan Lategan has seven, but there are 23 overs scheduled before the close.

Common sense is not very common. 6 in a group would make sense but when we have flood lights in the game now and we go off for bad light. And it’s only taken 200 years to get subs. But that’s why we love cricket and British sport.
Brian, Nottingham
Imagine the fun we’ll have on here on the opening weekend of the 2226 County Championship. How many wickets will James Anderson have by then?

Brown b Harmer 12 (Hants 156 & 119-4 v Essex 416-7d)
Image source, ShutterstockSimon Harmer has been threatening this and now he has his man.
The Essex spinner had floated this down the off stump line and brought it back in to just beat the defensive push from Ben Brown.
It looks as though it may have taken a nick off the inside edge to help but the off bail is gone and the result is the same.
Four down and they are still 186 adrift.

Northants 258 v Lancs 384 & 163-8
Ajeet Singh Dale and Tom Bailey were racing immediately after tea but have put the anchors on now which is perhaps frustrating Northants even more.
Where they were taking chances, with the partnership up to 54 and the lead to 290, they are now picking and choosing their moments to load the scoreboard more in their favour.
Saif Zaib and Calvin Harrison are keeping things reasonably tight but it is wickets the home side need.

Charlesworth b Roland-Jones 33 (Glos 93-3 f/o – need 229 to make Middlesex bat again)
Toby Roland-Jones has a sixth in this match as Ben Charlesworth goes fishing outside off and drags back onto his stumps to depart for a gritty 33.
Middlesex have a third wicket and a lead of 136 as is.
Ollie Price joins Miles Hammond in the middle for the second time in about five hours.

Glos 89-2 f/o – need 229 to make Middlesex bat again
We had a 10-over spell without a boundary and now we’ve had two in three balls…
Miles Hammond steers one from Toby Roland-Jones to the boundary at third with an open blade and then at the start of the next over Ben Charlesworth skips forward and launches Zafar Gohar back over his head for a one-bounce four.
Gloucestershire still trail by 140 runs following-on.

Hill c Haines b Crocombe 0 (Leics 52-4 – target 481)
Two in two for Henry Crocombe as Lewis Hill registers a pair in the first match of the 2026 Championship season.
The catch is taken at third slip and BBC commentator Rita Green says Leicestershire are in “deep, deep, deep trouble”.
Stevie Eskinazi survives the hat-trick ball but the Foxes are now in danger of succumbing to a three-day defeat.

Warwickshire 544 v Surrey 328 & 77-1
Rory Burns on 37 is still there for Surrey who are now 139 behind.
In theory they have 30 more overs to see off today although it would be a pleasant surprise if the light held up long enough to get those in.

Weatherald c Simpson b Crocombe 31 (Leics 52-3 – target 481)
“That’s a huge wicket, isn’t it,” says BBC Sussex’s Adrian Harms.
A positive approach is fine – but it wasn’t wide enough for the cut shot and Leicestershire’s Aussie opener is gone, caught behind.
-
for Jake Weatheraldpublished at 17:21 BST
Leics 51-2 – target 481
Well, well, well.
There are footmarks outside the left-hander’s off stump but Jake Weatherald is undaunted and lofts Jack Carson down the ground for a maximum.

A way to go yet, but a clear margin of victory would do wonders for Middlesex morale – players and supporters alike.

They’re doing all they can, Richard. Packing close catchers in with Zafar Gohar bowling.

Tribe lbw Bess 19 (Glamorgan 302 & 31-1 v Yorks 226)
Long shadows across the ground as Asa Tribe tries to pull a ball from Yorkshire skipper Dom Bess which doesn’t bounce as much as he was expecting. He is absolutely plumb.

Hants 156 & 114-3 v Essex 461-7d
Another lbw appeal from Simon Harmer as Nick Gubbins is rapped on his pad but that one is probably going past leg stump.
Gubbins rubs salt into the wound by flicking the next ball for four off his legs.
Now he claims a catch after the ball comes off the silly point fielder and is scooped by the bowler in his follow through.
This is a tricky one.
The umpires consult and, credit to them, decide what we can now see on replays that the ball bounced just before silly point’s leg and flicked up to Harmer.
