Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funds PBS and NPR, to close after Republicans cut funding –

WASHINGTON, D.C.(LifeSiteNews) — The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) – which funds PBS and NPR – announced Friday that it will shut down after the GOP-led House of Representatives approved a bill that is ultimately aimed at stripping the two left-wing outlets of taxpayer dollars.
The move by House Republicans comes after President Donald Trump issued an executive order in May instructing CPB’s Board of Directors and all executive departments and agencies to cease funding for the entities. Trump has previously called the CPB a “monstrosity.”
Most of CPB’s staff will be gone by the end of September, and the organization will cease to exist in January 2026.
Conservatives on Capitol Hill and across the nation who have long stressed that PBS and NPR serve to promote woke-liberal narratives while denigrating conservatives and conservative values took to social media to praise CPB’s defunding.

“The Corporation for Public Broadcasting—the scheme bureaucrats used to funnel taxpayer money to NPR and PBS—will soon be no more,” declared Sen. John Kennedy (R–Louisiana).
“That’s great news for every American who doesn’t want their tax dollars funding left-wing opinion journalism EVER again,” said Kennedy.

“This is a good use of your tax money?” asked Rod D. Martin, conservative founder of Martin Capital. He noted that:
- PBS called pro-life laws “extreme”
- NPR banned the word “illegal immigrant”
- PBS promoted CRT & Drag Queen Story Hour
- NPR called Hunter Biden’s laptop “a distraction”
“Democrats win because they use your government against you,” explained Martin.

Congress approved the CPB in 1967. For Fiscal Year 2025, it received $535 million in taxpayer dollars. NPR receives one percent of its annual budget from the CPB while PBS receives 16 percent of its yearly expenses from it.
