CNN admitted on Monday that ICE agents deployed to assist airport operations have helped reduce long security lines at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport, where wait times dropped to under an hour after days of chaos.

Reporting live, a CNN correspondent pointed out federal agents on the ground, saying, “You can see ICE agents behind me right there,” and adding, “And some more over here. They’ve been doing patrols.” ICE being on the scene allowed TSA officers to focus on screening passengers and easing major bottlenecks.

It comes after widespread travel disruptions caused by a partial government shutdown that left TSA agents working without pay. As staffing shortages worsened, wait times at major airports surged to multiple hours, with some locations reporting delays of up to three hours and call-out rates exceeding 40 percent.

President Donald Trump had warned he would deploy ICE agents to airports if Democrats continued to block funding for the Department of Homeland Security. ICE officers were subsequently sent to assist with security operations, primarily handling crowd control and support roles.
