Newcastle news: Trans ‘fetishist’ is jailed after rooting through bins looking for used nappies
A transgender fetishist with a “grotesque” obsession with rooting through bins to look for used nappies has been jailed.
Newcastle Crown Court heard that Abbie Taylor – previously known as Martin Tarling – had been banned from approaching public bins, but was spotted by two different people rummaging through them.
The 47-year-old was handed a suspended sentence in 2025 after targeting nurseries in the South Tyneside area.
Taylor has an extensive criminal history with 99 previous offences to his name.
Taylor was being held on remand at a male prison, and pleaded guilty to breaching a criminal behaviour order.
The judge sentenced the 47-year-old to two-and-a-half years behind bars.
According to prosecutor Claire Anderson, Taylor was given a three-year order in 2023 banning him from approaching nurseries, rummaging through bins or wearing incontinence aids over clothing in public.
In August 2025, the offender was handed down a two-year suspended sentence for breaching the condition after being spotting hanging around a number of nurseries and smearing faeces on children’s bottles.

Newcastle Crown Court heard that on December 27, a woman whose husband requires adult nappies found a number of his used products littered across their garden.
At first, she suspected they had been scattered around by the wind.
But later that day, she saw Taylor going through their bins – after hearing someone moving them around.
The court heard that the woman shouted at the 47-year-old and banged on her windows, causing the long-time criminal to bolt from the scene wearing very few items of clothing.

The prosecutor said that the very next day, the woman spotted Taylor going at their bins once again, only this time, the 47-year-old left with a bag of rubbish.
A separate woman sighted Taylor standing in her bins and looking through the rubbish on December 29, Newcastle Crown Court heard.
The 47-year-old was branded a “diaper fetishist” at a previous court appearance, with a social media page that described Taylor as an “adult baby diaper lover”.
However, in mitigation, a judge accepted a psychiatrist’s evaluation that the defendant’s disturbing actions were not sexually motivated.

The judge noted that the 47-year-old had a “grotesque obsession” with “rooting around in bins near care homes or nurseries to retrieve soiled nappies or incontinence wear”.
Recorder Anthony Hawks described the defendant’s conduct as “highly anti-social”.
He also noted that his actions were “extremely distressing” to those who had their bins rummaged through or witnessed the bizarre acts.
Taylor was given a 16-month jail sentence for breaching the previous court order and 14 months behind bars for breaching the suspended sentence imposed last year.
