OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) – Canada’s premier taxpayer watchdog group blasted the Liberal federal government of Prime Minister Mark Carney for spending $13 million on promotional merchandise such as “climate change card games,” “laser pens and flying saucers,” and “Bamboo toothbrushes” since 2022.
In a press release sent to LifeSiteNews, Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) federal director Franco Terrazzano spared no words in calling out the Carney Liberals for wasting taxpayer money while many Canadians struggle to feed their families.
“It’s like the government had a contest to see which department could come up with the dumbest way to spend taxpayers’ money, and they all won,” Terrazzano said.
“This is what happens when you have too many bureaucrats with too many tax dollars.”
Since January 2022, according to government records, the CTF was able to obtain and share with independent media, federal departments have spent millions on temporary tattoos, hockey pucks, bamboo toothbrushes, “climate change card games,” and tractor-shaped air fresheners. The items were branded with appropriate government logos.
According to the CTF, $51,800 was spent on socks and $25,600 on maple syrup products.
The data was released after Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner asked for a detailed report of money spent on promotional items from January 2022 to June 2025. The information in the package was 900 pages.
Records show that VIA Rail, a crown entity, spent $11,400 on “Pride” paraphernalia as well as $2,600 on belt bags.
Terrazzano blasted the Carney government, saying, “Government bureaucrats dropping thousands of dollars on stress balls really stresses taxpayers out.”
“Unless the temporary tattoos show the national debt to remind bureaucrats to cut spending, it’s a waste of money,” he said, adding that Carney “needs to tell government bureaucrats to knock it off with the card games, charcuterie boards, laser pens and flying saucers.”
Canadians pay some of the highest income and other taxes in the world. As reported by LifeSiteNews, Canadian families spend on average 42 percent of their income on taxes, more than food and shelter costs. Inflation in Canada is at a high not seen in decades.
As reported by LifeSiteNews, Carney boldly proclaimed earlier this week that his Liberal government’s upcoming 2025 budget will include millions more in taxpayer money for “SLGBTQI+ communities” and “gender” equality and “pride” safety.
The Carney government has chosen to pump millions into promoting the LGBT and pro-abortion agenda. His government recently promised $1.5 million in taxpayer funds for LGBT “pride” parades.
