Poll Shows Americans View COVID-19 Vaccines as Unsafe for Pregnant Women

CIDRAP reported:

Research presented last week during the American Academy of Pediatrics 2025 National Conference & Exhibition shows maternal COVID-19 vaccination is linked to a 58% lower risk of being infected with the virus, as well as a lower risk of experiencing a stillbirth or preterm birth.

But a new poll from the Annenberg Public Policy Center suggests significant hesitation among pregnant women to get vaccinated against COVID-19, with just 38% of poll respondents saying they would recommend that someone who is pregnant get the COVID-19 shot.

Less than half, 42%, of the 1,700 respondents, said it was safe to take an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine in pregnancy. And among women who are at childbearing age, 18 to 49 years, only 36% consider mRNA COVID-19 vaccines safe. Women in this age group are more likely (28%) than other adults (20%) to say it is false to state that COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy is safe.

Is Depo-Provera Birth Control to Blame for This Woman’s Brain Tumor? A Lawsuit Alleges Pfizer Failed to Warn of Potential Risk.

NBC News reported:

Robin Phillip’s fresh haircut is dyed her favorite color — green. But beneath the dye job is a scar that runs along the side of her head, the result of two craniotomies. For years, Phillip, 45, suffered from what she thought were migraines. It wasn’t until early 2018, when she had to leave her warehouse shift to drive to the hospital, that she learned her headaches were a symptom of something more serious. She said she nearly crashed on the drive to the emergency room, blinded by pain.

“The nurse said, ‘OK, what’s your pain from 1 to 10?’ I said 11, 12,” said Phillip. “They put me in the chair, and I don’t remember nothing after that.” Phillip awoke later to shocking news: She had an intracranial meningioma — a tumor of the lining of the brain. She needed emergency surgery.

After the procedure, Phillip lost vision in her left eye and had to re-learn how to walk. Unable to work, she lost her apartment and moved in with her mother until she could get back on her feet.

‘This Team Is Guided by Science’: Kenvue Chief Hits Back at Trump and RFK Jr.’s Tylenol Autism Claims in Memo to 20,000 Employees

Fortune reported:

Kenvue’s interim CEO is defending Tylenol’s safety after President Donald J. Trump and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. linked the pain reliever to autism and crashed the company’s shares.

In a memo shared with around 20,000 employees, Kenvue Interim CEO and Director Kirk Perry stressed that many credible public health and medical professionals maintain that Tylenol is safe for women to take during pregnancy. Here is the full memo. Shares of Tylenol parent company Tylenol have declined 22% in the past month amid the speculation.

In a statement to Fortune, Kenvue said it is “deeply concerned” about the confusion resulting from recent announcements. “We believe independent, sound science clearly shows that taking acetaminophen does not cause autism,” a spokesperson told Fortune.

Custom mRNA Allergy Shots? A Mouse Study Points to a New Playbook

Trial Site News reported:

Yrina Rochman, Ph.D., of the Division of Allergy & Immunology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, served as first author involving a multidisciplinary team (with co–corresponding authors Drew Weissman, M.D., Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania, and Marc E. Rothenberg, M.D., Ph.D., Cincinnati Children’s) to test an idea: can allergen-specific, nucleoside-modified mRNA lipid-nanoparticle (LNP) “vaccines” prevent or even treat allergic disease by flipping the immune response away from allergy-driving Th2 cells toward protective Th1 pathways and IgG “blocking” antibodies?

In multiple mouse models of asthma and atopy, allergen-encoded mRNA-LNPs reduced eosinophils, mucus, and airway hyperreactivity, raised allergen-specific IgG while keeping IgE low, and shifted T cells from Th2/Th17 toward Th1—showing prevention and treatment potential.

Note that Weissman is an American physician and researcher at Penn Medicine who co-won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work with Katalin Karikó to develop the modified mRNA technology used in vaccines. His discoveries enabled the creation of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.

Calls for Covid Vaccine Boycott Spur Tensions in French Pharmacy Sector

Radio France Internationale reported:

France’s national pharmacists’ council has strongly criticised calls from some within the profession to boycott orders of COVID-19 vaccines, warning that such a move would harm patients and undermine public health. The row comes as preparations get under way for this autumn’s dual vaccination campaign against flu and COVID-19, due to kick off on Oct. 14.

Pharmacists were able to start placing their first vaccine orders via Santé publique France’s portal on Monday. But on pharmacists’ online forums and social media groups, messages have been circulating urging colleagues not to order vaccine doses — a move intended as a form of protest against government policies.

Carine Wolf-Thal, president of the National Council of the Order of Pharmacists, voiced her disapproval. “Personally, and on behalf of the Council, I don’t think it’s a good idea to take patients hostage. Lawmakers have entrusted us with crucial public health missions, particularly improving vaccination coverage,” she told French news agency AFP.

She stressed that pharmacists are not only responsible for vaccinating their own patients, but also for supplying COVID-19 vaccines to other health professionals. “So not only would some pharmacists refuse to vaccinate, but they’d also prevent other professionals from doing so,” she said.

Ousted NIAID Director Says She Objected to RFK Jr.’s ‘Unscientific Hostility’ to Vaccines

Endpoints News reported:

Jeanne Marrazzo, the former director of the NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), claimed that U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. fired her because she filed a whistleblower complaint over his politicized stance on vaccines, among other issues.

Prior to her dismissal in March, Marrazzo was told she would be transferred to the Indian Health Service, which never occurred, according to her whistleblower filing. She was then let go about three weeks after filing a whistleblower complaint, along with Kathleen Neuzil, the former director of NIH’s Fogarty International Center, which supports NIH’s international collaborations on research.

Marrazzo’s lawyer Debra Katz said in a statement Wednesday that “there is no doubt she was removed from her position as Director of NIAID in retaliation for her protected whistleblower activity.”

An HHS official denied Marrazzo’s explanation for her firing.
