Shoppers have been alerted to a fresh product recall affecting chocolate biscuits sold at TK Maxx and Homesense outlets across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The warning concerns six types of Les Florentins Chocolat Biscuits that may contain gluten not declared on their labels.

The oversight occurred when supplementary labels failed to include allergen information that appeared on the original packaging.

Health officials at the Food Standards Agency (FSA) explained the labelling error creates a “possible health hazard” for coeliac disease sufferers or those with gluten sensitivities.

The affected products include Orange Chocolat Noir and Fruits Rouges Chocolate Noir varieties, both carrying batch code 17125 with expiry dates of June 20, 2026.

Additional recalled items include Caramel Chocolat Lait (batch 18325, expires July 2, 2026) and Orange Chocolat Lait (batch 18425, expires July 3, 2026).

Two further varieties, Menthe Chocolat Noir (batch 18825, expires July 7, 2026) and Citron Chocolat Noir (batch 17025, expires June 19, 2026), have also been called back. All affected products come in 100g packages.

Health officials have confirmed these items pose a danger for individuals with gluten allergies or coeliac conditions due to the undisclosed allergen.

HOMESENSE

“If you have bought the above products and have an allergy or intolerance to gluten, do not eat them. Instead, return them to any TK Maxx or Homesense store for a refund or a replacement,” the FSA instructed.

To ensure the safety of customers, store notices have been displayed at all outlets stocking these items to inform them about the recall.

Concerned customers can also reach TJX Europe at 01923 473561 or via email at customerservice@tjxeurope.com for additional information.

TJX Europe stressed the importance of “spreading the news”, urging shoppers to “tell [their] friends and family”.

Could you be affected?

While people with gluten intolerance and coeliac disease may exhibit similar symptoms after eating gluten, coeliac disease is far more severe. Bupa UK provides definitions and outlines symptoms for both.

Gluten intolerance

Gluten intolerance (or non-coeliac gluten sensitivity) is when your body reacts badly to gluten, but it is not related to your immune system.

Symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, fatigue, brain fog, joint and muscle pain, and skin rashes.

Coeliac disease

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks your body when you eat gluten.

Symptoms include diarrhoea, tummy cramps, bloating and flatulence (passing excess wind), weight loss, and fatigue.

While people with a gluten intolerance may be able to tolerate small amounts of gluten, those who suffer from coeliac disease must follow a gluten-free diet.

About allergy alerts

The FSA explained: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold.

“Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect, or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”

The recall of TJX Europe’s chocolate florentines comes just days after sausages sold at Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, and Waitrose were deemed unsafe to eat.

Officials issued an alert after discovering undeclared milk in The Jolly Hog’s Leek Porkers 6 British Sausages 400g.

Britons were advised to adhere to typical recall processes; those with a milk allergy or intolerance should avoid eating these sausages and instead bring them back to their point of purchase.

Food recalls should always be taken seriously to ensure your wellbeing.
