Americans for Prosperity Has a Message for Rep. Kaptur on the OBBB

Americans for Prosperity has launched a campaign to “Spotlight the Real Benefits of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” The first stop, on Friday, involved participants of AFP-Ohio who had a message for Rep. Marcy Kaptur, a Democrat representing Ohio’s 9th Congressional District.
The OBBB was signed into law by President Donald Trump last month, though Democrats like Kaptur voted against it. It’s a bill that the White House and groups in support, like Americans for Prosperity, are promoting as a tax cut and more.
“The campaign, which includes targeted digital and connected-TV ads, grassroots outreach, and themed events across the country, will ensure that Americans understand how the OBBBA is lowering costs, jump-starting the economy, and improving lives,” a press release from Americans for Prosperity explained. “The first in a series of ads will highlight four key features of the legislation: permanent tax cuts, border security, lower energy costs, and reforms that will strengthen Medicaid for those who truly need it.”
As part of a Friday morning rally in Toledo, where Kaptur’s district office is located, a group of Ohioans gathered to voice their concerns about Kaptur’s vote.
Attendees promoted income tax cuts and border security, also tying it to the campaign promises that other Ohio politicians, including Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno, did follow through on with their campaign promises. Moreno was added as a member to Senate leadership last month, after he helped get the OBBB over the finish line.
Rally attendees also called out Moreno’s predecessor, now former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown.
“Hey hey, ho ho, Marcy Kaptur has got to go,” attendees even chanted.
Posts over social media promoted “holding [Kaptur] accountable.”
An AFP-Ohio Facebook live video from the event emphasized the bill’s benefits, calling out the congresswoman for voting against them.
“Time and time again, over the 40 plus years Marcy’s had in Washington, D.C., she continuously votes against the will of her constituents and for D.C. special interests,” said Donovan O’Neil, the state director of AFP-Ohio. “Toledeans are fired up! Northwest is fired up, and fed up, with what she’s doing,” he continued.
Although O’Neil acknowledged it’s a long time from next year’s midterms, he still offered that “we’re starting now, talking to folks, reminding them of what’s at stake.”
“There’s a lot at stake with this, folks, and that’s why we’re out here talking about it,” O’Neil added, promoting the rally as a way to reach Kaptur.
O’Neil further highlighted what’s at stake in a statement for The Daily Signal.
“Rep. Marcy Kaptur has spent decades in Washington voting for bloated spending, open borders, and radical Green New Deal scams that punish Ohio families,” he said in a statement. “The Trump Middle Class Tax Cuts flip that script—cutting $1.1 trillion in reckless spending, killing handouts for special interests, and unleashing American energy. If Kaptur thinks protecting Washington, D.C. status quo is more important than ensuring $1500 in permanent tax cuts for her constituents, she has no business representing a working-class state like Ohio.”
Kaptur has previously spoken against the OBBB over social media. She is a target of the National Republican Congressional Committee for next year’s midterms. Earlier this week, Vice President JD Vance also called the congresswoman out for such a vote.

State Rep. Josh Williams, who is running as a Republican to challenge Kaptur also called out Kaptur for her vote in a statement for The Daily Signal.
“Marcy Kaptur’s vote against the Trump agenda and the One Big Beautiful Bill is proof positive that she serves radical, left-wing special interest groups in Washington D.C., and not the hardworking people of Northwest Ohio,” said Williams.
There are more events to come, which coincide with the August recess.
“As part of the campaign, AFP will host dozens of events with lawmakers during the August recess to energize constituents and continue educating communities about the bill’s benefits. These events will serve as a platform to highlight how the OBBBA is delivering on its promises and to equip citizens with the facts they need to counter misleading political rhetoric,” the press release explained. “AFP also intends to highlight individual testimonials from families and small business owners who now have renewed confidence to invest in the economy and plan for the future.”
